Joyce is a versatile artist not limiting herself to just one medium but endeavoring to improve in them all. From graphite, to pen and ink, calligraphy, acrylic and oil, she has discovered the magic of colored pencil the last few years from a workshop in Frederick. Now acts as coordinator in the area for Ann Kullberg's workshops and has become enamored with the potential of colored pencil. Subjects are as varied as the interest in media and anything that inspires is worth attempting to capture. Portraiture is the latest endeavor, although, at the moment, am working on a landscape commission, so there are no rules. With the addition of a beautiful studio her husband built a few years ago, Joyce will continue to explore with various subjects and media, giving that studio the time it deserves. In the few years since rejoining the art field after decades, Mayer has been published twice in Ann Kullberg's Colored Pencil books, been accepted in a number of juried shows, and serves as the Art Director for the MCJLEM, a police museum that is in the works. Joyce has also taught art to children of all ages but hopes to spend more time in the studio in the coming years.

First Kiss

A colored pencil "painting" that captures the kiss of a newborn by his birth father minutes before he was given up for adoption to loving parents. This will have a print made that will be published in a book made for the little guy by his adoptive parents. Hopefully, it captures the love that was present in his life only minutes after he entered it.

Formal portrait in Prismacolor Premier Pencil on 18x24 bristol vellum paper. Prime Minister Colijn (pronounced Co-lane) was the PM of Netherlands during WWII, and is AKA great grandfather in our family. This is a treasured family heirloom now, to be passed down to son and grandson who both share the Colijn name.
