Catoctin Land Trust's Art Along the Trail

Catoctin Land Trust is Maryland’s only land trust dedicated to preserving the woods and waters of the Appalachian Trail landscape. Our vision is an enduring connected and living Appalachian Mountain landscape of protected forests, clean streams, regenerative farmland and vibrant communities in Frederick and Washington counties.

Catoctin Land Trust engages community members to expand their appreciation for our surrounding environment and to invites those who treasure the creative life and this land to share their connections through art.

“Art Along the Trail” is a project for artists and creators to share their stories, their connections with this special landscape, through art showcasing farmland and vibrant communities in Frederick and Washington counties.

If you have a connection to outdoors, support conservation and good stewardship, especially along the Appalachian Trail, you can help us support conservation through art sales and education. Share your talents and engage our community to have a deeper connection and appreciation of the South Mountain landscape.

On September 24th a featured exhibit will be held at the Historic Inn Boonsboro, located in Boonsboro, Maryland, Appalachian Trail Community, Catoctin Land Trust will host an art reception from 2 – 4PM as a fundraiser toward our conservation efforts. The work will remain on display through October 31st and can be viewed by appointment.

The exhibit is open to all visual artists over the age of 18, working in any fine art or craft medium, or technique, any representational, abstract, or non-representational art form. Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last two years.

Artist can submit up to 3 images. The entry fee is $10 for each image. If you choose to submit 3 the fee will be $25.

  • All work must be suitably prepared for installation.
  • Work must be for sale; NFS is not allowed.
  • GIB/IBB reserves the right to deny entry if any work is deemed not suitable for display or too difficult to install.

By submitting artwork for the exhibit you agree that we will retain a 35% commission on all sales. 15% will be collected to offset the expenses of the event by Gifts Inn Boonsboro and 20% will be donated to Catoctin Land Trust.

Gifts Inn Boonsboro & Inn Boonsboro will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the entries displayed at Inn Boonsboro, that we are not responsible for loss of or damage to the artwork, and the artist is responsible for his/her own insurance if desired.

Publicity: Artist grants permission for the Catoctin Land Trust to use submitted images of artwork for promotion and publicity. The CLT & GIB will promote the exhibit through its Web site, e-mail list, press releases, and social media.

Delivery and Shipping of Accepted Artwork:
All accepted work must arrive between Saturday September 15 - Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Works accepted for the exhibit are to be hand-delivered or shipped to:

Hand-Delivered Work – Artwork to be hand-delivered must arrive at the Gifts Inn Boonsboro on Friday, 9/15, Saturday, 9/16 from 10am – 5pm Sunday, 9/17 from 11am – 4pm Monday 9/19 & Tuesday 9/19 10am – 5pm. All artwork must have information attached: Title, name of artist, medium, price.

Shipped Work – Artwork to be shipped must arrive during the week of Monday September 11 through Friday September 15, 2023. Staff will be at the shop to receive shipments between 10am and 5pm. Work must be shipped prepaid to the Gifts Inn Boonsboro in sturdy, reusable packing. Plexiglass must be used on all shipped works, no glass. All artwork must have information attached: Title, name of artist, medium, price.

For return shipping, a pre-paid, printed shipping label must be included with your work – no exceptions! Hand-written labels are not acceptable. Gifts Inn Boonsboro will not be responsible for return shipping. Failure to provide a proper pre-paid shipping label could result in delays and increased costs, and could result in damage to your work due to limited storage available at the gallery.

Pick Up of Work at End of the Exhibit – Artists picking up their work at the conclusion of the show should do so on Wednesday Nov 1st from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Return of Shipped Work – GIB will deliver shipped work to FedEx/UPS on Wednesday/Thursday following the close of the show, on or about November 1, 2023
