Scenic America Call for Entries
2024 America the Beautiful Photo Contest

Scenic America invites photographers of all levels to participate in our 2024 America the Beautiful Photo Contest. We are asking for high-resolution, digital images of places around America that represent the beauty and scenic character of our country. Images should represent views of America that are clearly publicly accessible. Each participant may submit up to 5 entries for consideration.

How to Enter
Photos may be submitted using the form on this page beginning July 1 through August 5. Please complete the required information to ensure we can appropriately attribute all photos.

Photo Categories
Photographers are encouraged to submit their photos to any of our nine categories listed below. If a photo appeals to multiple categories, that photo may be submitted to all categories that apply.

  1. Mountains
  2. Parks and Open Spaces
  3. Beaches
  4. Rivers and Lakes
  5. Trees and Forests
  6. Highways, Byways, and Roads
  7. Animals
  8. Cities and Towns
  9. People

'People's Choice' Voting
All submitted and approved photos will be entered into a two-week voting period beginning August 12 through September 1 to determine 'People's Choice'. Voting will be open to the public and participants are enocuraged to share their photos with friends and family on social media.

Judging
Judging to determine category winners and 'Best in Show' will take place after the submission period ends and during the voting period for 'People's Choice'. All photos will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Representation of scenic beauty
  • Originality
  • Technical excellence
  • Composition
  • Overall impact
  • Minimal altering and manipulation
  • Artistic merit

Rules
Photos may not be heavily edited. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to enter. Scenic America shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions are final. The Photo Contest is not open to Board Members or staff at Scenic America.

Prizes
All winners will receive national recognition in Scenic America's media and communications channels, plus a commemorative gift. The following winners will be announced the week of Labor Day, September 2-6:

  • Category Winners and Category Runners-Up
  • Overall Best in Show and Overall Runners-Up
  • People's Choice Winner and People's Choice Runners-Up

Photographer Rights
Each photographer retains all rights to any photographs submitted -- including ownership, if applicable -- other than those rights licensed in the next sentence:

By entering Scenic America’s 2024 America the Beautiful Photo Contest, you hereby grant to Scenic America the following: (i) a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the photographs you submit to Scenic America, and (ii) the right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.

All photographs in media publications will be credited with the caption "Photo Name by Photographer Name – Courtesy of Scenic America" whenever used. All photographs used on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) will be credited with the photographer’s name and/or social media handle. Scenic America has final approval of any language that appears on its website with any of the photos. View additional rights and restrictions here.
